2018 Black & Gold Ball

Annually the men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. – Theta Zeta Lambda Chapter (Ann Arbor’s alumni chapter) celebrate with their Black and Gold Scholarship Ball. This event raises thousands of dollars towards the education of deserving students in need. The hope is to encourage their higher learning aspirations. This fundraiser stands as the Ann Arbor Alphas’ premier signature event. Within the last three years the chapter has grown their Theta Zeta Lambda Scholarship Fund trust to over $60,000 in an effort to increase the longevity and impact of their giving.
Furthermore, Theta Zeta Lambda Chapter has formed a special community service relationship with The African-American and African Foundation on Science, Education and Economic Development, Inc. (AAAFSEED). AAAFSEED develops cultural, educational, technological, economic and scientific ties and opportunities for and between African-Americans and Africans. Theta Zeta Lambda Chapter and AAAFSEED will work together to provide an additional scholarship to a deserving student in 2018.

Through their service work on and around local campuses, the men of the Ann Arbor Alumni chapter noticed that minority students on the campuses of the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University were falling victim to a culture of negativity which seems to be driven by the current political environment.
How can we raise the funds necessary to assist those in need while showing us all possible solutions to this dilemma?

This was the question that the Alpha Men of Ann Arbor pondered during the past few months. They decided that the solution was to bring a champion—one of their own who understands the dilemma, can articulate the solution and he practices what he preaches. Roland Martin fit the bill.

Martin is a renowned journalist, CNN contributor, and a senior analyst for the Tom Joyner Morning Show, where his daily segment is heard on more than 100 stations and 8 million people daily. Martin is the host and managing editor of TV One’s NewsOne Now, the first daily morning news program in history to focus on news and analysis of politics, entertainment, sports, and culture from an explicitly African American perspective. . He has been awarded 3 NAACP Image Awards and is the author of 3 books. Roland Martin is both recognized and respected as a straight shooter who tells it like it is.

The Men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Theta Zeta Lambda Chapter are honored and proud to introduce The 2018 Annual Black and Gold Scholarship Ball scheduled for March 24, 2018 with a cocktail hour that begins at 6:00 PM and Dinner at 7:00 PM.
